Introducing LANrev® Version 5.0
Get Green, Get Compliant, Reduce Costs
LANrev 5.0, a ground-breaking new release, adds numerous major features to LANrev, including advanced power management, redesigned user interface, exciting new changes to software distribution, enhanced licensing monitoring, and vulnerability management through FDCC scanner support. Key enhancements are highlighted below. To experience LANrev 5.0 for yourself download a full-featured evaluation today!
Power Management
LANrev 5.0 introduces the eco-friendly Power Management Settings command, which enables the following:
- Assign multiple power saving schedules to clients.
- Save power and the environment, while reducing energy costs for your company.
- Set up multiple profiles on clients based on their power connectivity with different power saving actions that are triggered at a certain day/time or after a specified period of inactivity. The most conservative profile is always enforced, ensuring maximum energy savings.
- Specify different profiles depending on whether a user is logged in or not. New Power Management information items have also been added to help track your organisation's energy usage and savings resulting from the new energy conservation policy.
Endpoint Security and Vulnerability Management
- LANrev's new FDCC SCAP scanner ensures that Windows XP and Vista clients meet FDCC (Federal Desktop Core Configuration) security configuration guidelines set by the NIST and NSA. LANrev even lets you select which security profile objects to scan for. Results are viewable in a separate Compliance Reports window.
- There are several new access privileges for enabling computer tracking pictures and screenshots; remote control; viewing computer tracking data, pictures, and screenshots; and viewing custom fields and server status.
- The Computer Tracking, Remote Control, Delete Computer Record, and View Text File commands are now tracked and logged to the command queue.
- The ability to manage all computers has been separated into its own account setting instead of being implied for all superadministrator accounts.
- LANrev's FDCC SCAP scanner enables government agencies to secure endpoints and validate compliance as mandated by the standards set by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
Improved User Interface
- The Software Distribution, License Monitoring, Administrator, Server Settings, and Custom Fields windows have been combined into a single Server Center window for more convenient access.
- To reduce clutter, tabbed viewing is now available for all windows except for the Server Center window.
- Categories can be created to organise LANrev items, including computer groups, for easier management and viewing. These can be nested.
- Mac widget functionality has been rolled directly into the Server Center window for both the Windows and Mac admin console.
- The Server Center window title bar displays the address of the LANrev server you are currently logged into, making it easier for you manage multiple servers.
Asset Inventory
- A manual custom field type has been added to inventory items that cannot be tracked automatically. These are similar to client information items but are stored on the LANrev server itself. A wizard helps explain how to import existing manual data. Unlike client information fields there is no limit to the number of manual custom fields that can be created.
- All custom fields, including the new manual ones and the old dynamic ones, now have a data type (String, Number, Boolean, Date, File Version, IP Address, Enumeration), which allows you to more easily create smart group selection criteria. Previously all custom field data was returned as a string data type, which limited the smart group operators that could be used.
- Dynamic custom fields based on an executable now accept command line options. This allows you to use the same executable for different dynamic custom fields simply by specifying a different option switch.
- Custom fields can now be globally assigned to all agents automatically so you no longer have to manually assign them to new agents as they come online.
- Custom fields can now be mirrored automatically between multiple servers. Custom field data was previously only returned to the primary inventory server.
- Text only custom information items without file attachments can now be exported and reimported simply by dragging and dropping them between the Server Center window and desktop.
Software Distribution
- Software package definitions can now contain multiple payloads. Mix and match different payloads to create different iterations of the same software package without having to re-upload the entire package. For example, create a base payload for Microsoft Office but add secondary payload that contains just the XML or MST file that determines what components are installed.
- A new metapackage definition lets you modularise and tie together different software package definitions as one big metapackage. Mix and match different packages for different departments and assign them as a single item. Metapackages can also include other metapackages.
- With direct deployment support for Adobe CS3 products and updaters you can drop a CS3 installer into the software distribution section of the Server Center and LANrev will provide you with an appropriate list of options, such as which components to install and the serial number to be used for the installation.
- Software package definitions now accept command line options so you can customise PKG installer packages using XML answer files. These command line options can also be used for script executables.
- Drag and drop support has been added to the Payloads and Software Packages section of the Server Center for creating new software distribution objects. Drop a file here to automatically create a new payload or software package definition.
- There is a new installation option for staging packages on agent machines before displaying the software installation UI to the end user. This improves the user experience and speeds up the installation for the end user since they no longer have to wait for the installation files to download before proceeding with the installation.
- You can now choose to keep installation files on agent machines to facilitate the self-healing Repair option for MSI-based installers.
Licence Management
- You can now customise the termination message that an end user sees when launching a prohibited application.
- New licence specification option to delete a prohibited application if found.
- New licence specification option to terminate an application launch if it will cause you to exceed your licensing.
- New software Purchase Price and Maintenance Price for purchase tracking entries.
Remote Configuration
- DameWare and Microsoft Remote Assistance remote control integration support.
- Commands can now be assigned to groups, both standard and smart. Targets for smart groups are re-evaluated every 60 minutes if you have scheduled it to run on a recurring basis.
- The Execute Script command now accepts command line options, allowing you to use the same script for different templates simply by specifying a different option switch.
Other features
The LANrev agent installer now lets you install the agent to a volume other than the startup volume (Mac) or to a directory other than Program Files (Windows). This lets you use the Mac LANrev agent with InstaDMG and install the agent to secondary drive letter on Windows.
